Shippensburg University has been named to the Center for First-generation Student Success 2020-21 cohort of First-gen Forward Institutions. The First-gen Forward designation recognizes institutions of higher education that demonstrate a commitment to improving experiences and advancing outcomes of first-generation college students. Selected institutions receive professional development, community-building experiences, and a first look at the center’s research and resources.

Through its Students First office, Ship works to improve the experience of first-generation students on campus. These efforts include parent and family workshops, financial planning, individual coaching and resilience building, internal and external resource referrals and more.

“This distinction allows our faculty and staff at Shippensburg University to receive First-generation focused professional development, to further support our first-generation students on campus with the most up-to-date strategies, practices and programming,” said Rochelle Plummer, executive director of student retention.
