As of today, September 3, 2020, Shippensburg University remains at having three reported positive COVID-19 cases. The three students who tested positive are fulfilling their 10 days of isolation. Three additional members of our community that have been placed in quarantine after being identified as Contacts to positive cases outside the Shippensburg University Community.

ASYMPTOMATIC TESTING: The University is inviting a random selection of student to participate in Asymptomatic Testing every week. These tests will require 48-72 hours for results. If a student is invited, they will receive an e-mail from the SU COVID Office. A different sampling of students will be invited to participate each week. Next week, a larger group of students will be invited to participate. All students are welcome (and encouraged) to take advantage of this voluntary testing initiative. 

This Asymptomatic testing is available for ALL students free of charge. If a student is interested, please contact the Etter Student Health Center to make an appointment. X1458

SYMPTOMATIC TESTING: Etter/WellSpan continues to test for symptomatic students. WellSpan works with each student who arrives and is exhibiting symptoms associated with COVID-19 infection. Some students may not qualify for the symptomatic tests in accordance with medical protocol and their presenting symptoms/illness, but can request an asymptomatic test at that time. Symptomatic tests are administered to students who present symptoms in line with COVID-19 infection. Here are some of the symptoms to look out for:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Since August 20, 2020 we have had 45 students take the symptomatic test, with three positive cases. All testing, Asymptomatic and Symptomatic on our campus is purely voluntary, in accordance with State System (PASSHE) directives.

WellSpan follows notification procedures in accordance with the PaDOH (reporting through PA-NEDSS, an electronic database that relays information to the CDC and PA DoH). We are committed to carrying out all PaDOH recommended guidance to help us fulfill our mission of educational excellence and opportunity while promoting the health and well-being of our campus family, community, and region. 

LABOR DAY WEEKEND: Please abide by all social distancing protocols, wear your mask up to cover your nose, and use the temperature checking and hand sanitizing stations located throughout campus.  For this Labor Day, please exercise caution. We strongly encourage all students, faculty and staff to curtail any plans to meet with friends, extended family members or attend gatherings (large or small). Proper PPE should be used and Social Distancing should be maintained. All Shippensburg University members should avoid the temptations of Labor Day weekend and the social gatherings. We know the past few weeks of mask-wearing and COVID-19 protocols is frustrating, but with everyone’s efforts, we can make it through this semester together!!!
