Evan Ramos is a winner.

A two-time NCAA Division II All-American wrestler, Ramos posted a 98-17 career record with the Raiders.

Despite his incredible success, the criminal justice major says he was always tested along the way – which fueled his drive for success.

“The professors, in conjunction with my athletic program, gave me the confidence and positive challenges to recognize my true potential and ability. The accolades and success I was able to obtain at SHIP will be memories never forgotten,” Ramos said.

After his time at Shippensburg, Ramos kept wrestling. He won a bronze medal representing Puerto Rico at the Pan-Am Games, beating two Olympians along the way.

“The interpersonal relationships with faculty, staff, and peers gave you the assurance of not being ‘just a number,’” Ramos said. “That was critical in discovering self-worth and what you can offer to your community and the world.”

Ramos, a Hawthorne, N.J. native, transitioned into coaching. After beginning as an NCAA Division I assistant coach at Bucknell, Ramos is now an NCAA Division I assistant coach at the University of Buffalo. He credits his time at Shippensburg to help prepare him for his current position.

“Coming from New Jersey, going to Ship in central Pennsylvania was a culture shock. It took me out of my comfort zone and pushed me to be more outspoken, confident, and rise to challenges that have been critical in my role as an assistant wrestling coach for a Division I university,” Ramos said.
